Pickleball
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the United States that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. All age groups are playing and enjoying Pickleball. Youth are playing Pickleball as part of Physical Education in Middle school and High school. Also, many Pickleball courts are being installed in city parks and retirement communities for those who are older. Pickleball is currently being played year round in the Alta View Stake and Hillcrest Stake. What Do I Need To Bring?
The Stake Centers have all of the equipment (rackets, balls, nets and courts).
- Bring your family & friends.
- Wear what you would wear to play tennis (tennis shoes, and sports attire).
How Long Is A Game?
- Games generally last about 15 to 20 minutes. Games go fast so there is not a lot of waiting time to play.
- The times listed are open house times. You don't necessarily come and play for 3 hours. Come and play at any time during the Open House times. Come and play one game if that is all the time that you have available!
- Most games are doubles games because of the limited number of courts and the amount of people that want to play. Don't worry if you don't have a partner - there will be others there looking for a partner.
- If you just want to come and watch and learn, that is OK too!
- This is such a new sport that everyone is learning to play! So, don't feel like you are the only one that has never played before!
Who Can Play?
- Right now, play is limited to anyone 18 years or older. Children are welcome, but need to stay off of the courts. They are encouraged to stay on the stage area. Children can play, as long as there are no adults waiting to play. Adults have priority.
- Pickleball is a great sport for couples! Games can be men against men, women against women or mixed doubles.
- Everyone is invited. Be sure to ask your friends and neighbors!
Below is a spotlight video that CBS News aired about Pickleball that will explain more and hopefully get you excited.
